Dr. Mukerji Superannuated as Deputy Director General, Geological Survey of India. He has been to Antarctica as part of Indian expedition teams on three different occasions between 1985 and 1993. In 2009 he represented India in the 28th Brazilian Antarctic Expedition under scientific personnel exchange programme of BRICS countries. Dr. Mukerji has been Leader of the Eleventh Indian Expedition (1991-92) as well as the Station Commander for the Ninth Winter Team (1992). He received the National Mineral Award - 2004 for his contributions in India's Antarctic Programme. He is presently engaged with literary writing in Bangla and Hindi.
